TheraCare Physical Therapy

Our Services

Exercise prescription: Particularly in older adults, a comprehensive exercise program can reduce fall risk, maintain or improve muscle mass, and keep a senior citizen active inside and outside of the home. Many people avoid exercise because they don't know how or are afraid to injure themselves. We can design an individualized exercise program for anyone regardless of age or level of physical conditioning.

Arthritis care: We can design a program to help manage the symptoms of osteoarthritis or Rheumatoid arthritis including:

  • Patient education and training in body mechanics, joint protection techniques, and work injury prevention.
  • Exercise including strength training, range of motion exercise, low-impact exercise, stretching and endurance training..
  • Custom splinting to decrease deformity, increase stability and decrease pain.

Hand Therapy: For our patients requiring rehabilitation from hand, wrist or elbow injuries/surgery we are fortunate to offer the services of Karen Shields OTR/L, CHT. She is an Occupational Therapist who is also a Certified Hand Therapist. Karen has more than 30 years of experience rehabilitating hands and has working relationships with most of the hand surgeons in the greater Manchester area.

At TheraCare we are committed to offering prompt scheduling. In most cases we can accomodate you within 24 hours of receiving the referral from your Physician or when you contact us to schedule your initial evalutation.

Special programs

Osteoporosis prevention: Patients are instructed in appropriate weight-bearing exercises to help increase bone mass, as well as how to exercise using resistance bands/tubing and arm/ankle weights to increase overall strength and decrease risk of fractures.

Fall prevention: For patients who have had a fall or are concerned about problems with their balance. A comprehensive evaluation is performed to determine fall risk including assessing gait, balance, range of motion and strength of the lower extremeties. An individualized exercise program is then developed to address problem areas to lower fall risk.
